[1]In two separate incidents in Manhattan, men have made a fortune stealing and reselling printer toner … to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The first man, Marque Gumbs, was a hospital clerk at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Associated Press reports[2]. Gumbs used his position to order toner cartridges from the center and then sell them at a steep discount. He used his illicit income to fund a lifestyle that included a BMW and vacations to Las Vegas and Mexico. Gumbs has pled guilty and is serving 2.5 to 7.5 years in jail.

The second man, who is charged with grand larceny, is Adrian Rodriguez. He worked in the duplicating department of a large law firm and netted more than $350,000 selling the firm’s toner. Prosecutors say Rodriguez used the money to finance a partying life.

Toner can cost from $80 to $250 per unit, but thieves typically sell it on the black market for as little as $10.
