Now-disgraced cycling champion Lance Armstrong admitted to Oprah Winfrey on Monday that he used performance-enhancing drugs during his career.
Armstrong, who won seven Tour de France titles before being stripped of them late last year, made the admission Monday in a interview with Winfrey that will run Thursday, Fox News reports. Armstrong taped the interview following an apology to his former staff at Livestrong, the charity he founded.
The cyclist had denied for years that he had ever been involved in doping. However, last year he lost his titles after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency slammed Armstrong in a report concluding its investigation into his activities. Following the report, Armstrong lost his sponsorships, was forced to resign from Livestrong and had his championships taken from him.
The confession may have legal consequences for Armstrong, as well. The London Sunday Times has already filed against him to recover $500,000 it paid to settle a libel case. Others, such as the government of South Australia and SCA Promotions, are claiming they will also file to recover money paid to Armstrong for winning championships and personal appearances.
