Cat Beats Iron: Monopoly Selects a New Token

[1]After an online vote, game maker Hasbro (NASDAQ:HAS[2]) is bringing a cat token to Monopoly.

On the game’s Facebook (NASDAQ:FB[3]) page, Monopoly enthusiasts voted on which token should get a spot  reports[4]. When the votes were counted, the company released an app[5] showing the outcome. The voters chose to get rid of the iron.

The winner and new token is the cat. The Internet’s love of cats proved to much for the other candidates, such as the diamond ring, the robot, the helicopter and the guitar. There is, as yet, no word on how the dog token feels about adding a cat to the mix.

All of the tokens, the eight classics and the five proposed candidates that were just voted on, are featured in a special limited edition of Monopoly[6] available in February. Following that, by the end of summer, Monopoly sets will feature the seven classic tokens and the cat.
