Carnival Flying 3,600 Passengers Home After Another Cruise Mishap

Second ship to have trouble in a day

Carnival Corp. NYSE:CCLFor the second time in less than a day, a Carnival (NYSE:CCL) cruise ship is having trouble.

The Carnival Legend — a ship that carries 2,124 passengers — is showing problems with one of its propulsion units and is slower than expected, reports USA Today.

While there are no reported problems with the ship’s operations — as happened with the ill-fated Carnival Triumph last month — it does mean that ports of call on the seven-day trip are being delayed. Carnival is offering passengers on the Carnival Legend a $100 credit and refunds on any shore excursions that the delay causes them to miss.

Yesterday, the Carnival Dream experienced technical problems in a backup generator during routine testing. Since the problem could have caused issues while the ship was at sea, the company canceled the trip. More than 3,500 passengers are being flown home from St. Maarten.
