Woman Fired for Selling Girl Scout Cookies at Work

28-year employee given pink slip

GirlScoutCookiesA Washington, DC woman says she was fired from her job for selling girl scout cookies at her workplace.

Tracy Lewis — who had worked on the campus at American University for 28 years — received her pink slip February 18, reports Fox 5 out of Washington, DC.

In her termination letter, her boss says that she was guilty of “gross misconduct by soliciting” the sales of the popular treats. The letter went on to say that by selling the cookies over the counter she was “operating a personal cash business” and therefore violating company policy.

Lewis says she’s sold the cookies at the Eagle’s Nest convenience store for three years. She sells them to help her 12-year-old daughter who is a girl scout. “They didn’t give me any warning. It’s crazy because I can’t profit for selling the cookies. It’s a volunteer position. I was just trying to help my daughter raise money for trips and stuff like that.”

A spokeswoman for Bon Appetit Management Company, Lewis’ former employer, said that the company did not comment on confidential employee matters.
