Safety Concerns Shut Down Disneyland’s Space Mountain

State regulators issued citations over an accident last year

Disney high put/call ratioOn Sunday, Disney (NYSE:DIS) announced that it had temporarily closed two popular rides at its Disneyland theme park.

Both the Soarin’ Over California ride and the Space Mountain roller coaster remained shut down after state inspectors issued citations relating to a November accident at the park. That accident badly injured an employee outside Space Mountain, the Los Angeles Times noted.

A third ride, the Matterhorn Bobsleds, was shut down after the citations were received on Friday, but re-opened on Sunday.

According to a Disneyland spokesperson, the rides were shut down on a voluntary basis so that the theme park could evaluate its employee safety procedures.

Earlier this month, rumors circulated that Disney was preparing to launch a round of corporate layoffs in a bid to reduce costs.

Shares of Disney dipped slightly in Monday morning trading.
