When Amanda Berry clawed her way out of the Cleveland, Ohio, house in which she had been held prisoner for a decade, neighborhood resident Charles Ramsey gained instant media fame for helping her escape.
Now the hero is getting a sizable reward from a big name restaurant chain. McDonald‘s (MCD) says that Ramsey will get to eat for free at its local restaurant for the next twelve months, CNN notes.
McDonald’s action comes after Ramsey mentioned the company in multiple interviews. Ramsay said he noticed Berry trying to escape from the home after he returned from his local McDonald’s. He said he was holding a “half-eaten” Big Mac while helping the kidnapping victim. Numerous people urged the company to reward Ramsay via Twitter.
In addition to rewarding Ramsey, McDonald’s is contributing $10,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The donation has been made in the names of the three women — Amanda Berry, Michele Knight and Gina DeJesus — who were held captive in the home.
Aside from McDonald’s, Ramsey has received offers of free food for 14 other restaurants in the area.
