Comcast’s (CMCSA[1]) Universal Studios and Focus Features announced August 1, 2014[2] as the global release date for the 50 Shades of Grey movie adaptation.

Focus Feature acquired movie rights to all three books in the Fifty Shades Trilogy in 2012.

Sam Taylor-Johnson will be directing the film[3]. Previously Johnson directed the 2010 film Nowhere Boy, which was a biopic of John Lennon’s early teenage years.

Kelly Marcel, who is the creator of Fox’s Terra Nova, has been hired to write the screenplay[4] for the movie. She is also credited as writing the screenplay for the upcoming film Saving Mr. Banks, which acts as a behind-the-scenes look into the creation of the Marry Poppins film.

Marcel isn’t planning to hold back for the movie and says it will be filled with sex[5].

No actors have been announced for the film yet, but Emma Waston quickly squashed rumors[6] of her involvement.

The Fifty Shades Trilogy has sold over 70 million copies worldwide according to Focus Features.
