Meet the 84-Year-Old Winner of the $590M Powerball Lottery

Floridian retiree steps forward to claim prize

Powerball-112512LGloria MacKenzie won the largest undivided lottery jackpot of all time.

The Florida resident, a retiree, accepted the prize as a lump sum of $370 million — $278 million after taxes, according to Washington Post. Yes, that’s less than half of the advertised jackpot, but don’t feel sorry for her, because that’s still a quarter of a billion dollars.

In a remarkably sensible move, MacKenzie resisted the urge to pop multiple bottles of champagne at the lottery offices, instead leaving officials with a statement that expressed her gratitude and asked for the public to respect her privacy.
