Heat Wave Leads to Return of On-Demand Ice Cream Trucks

The hottest heat wave of the summer has prompted a massive demand for ice cream all throughout the U.S.

The Big Story reports[1] that San Francisco-based company Uber has responded by creating a one-day promotion where people can get ice cream delivered to their house for the right price.

Uber is mostly known for offering luxury transportation services, but people will have the ability to order an ice cream truck directly to their house this Friday using their smartphones. They have designed an application that allows users to order in by simply getting the app, putting in their credit card information, and clicking a button.

The idea of having a one-day ice cream truck promotion came last year when a heat wave of similar magnitude swept the nation. Although they had trucks running in seven different cities in 2012, the demand outweighed the supply, so they’re looking to expand this year.

Uber’s ice cream truck special will take place in 22 different U.S. cities across the nation, as well as 13 other cities throughout the globe.
