Two ‘Real Housewives’ Stars Face 55 Years in Prison

Giudice couple indicted for fraud, tax evasion

Teresa and Joe Giudice, stars of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey, appeared in court today to face charges of fraud and tax evasion.

Business Insider reports that the Giudices were indicted for conspiring to defraud lenders, illegally obtaining loans, and misrepresenting their assets after filing for bankruptcy, charges that could land the Real Housewives couple in prison for 55 years with $1.5 million in fines.

Jon Giudice is also accused of failing to file a tax return between 2004 and 2008. Each missed year could mean an additional year in jail and a $100,000 fine. Furthermore, as an Italian citizen, Jon could face deportation if convicted.

The New York Daily News described the couple as defiant when they showed up at the court, reporting that Jon pushed aside a news crew’s camera to the dismay of the couple’s attorney. Judge Cathy Walder set the Giudices bail at $500,000 each, also confiscating their passports and confining the couple to New York and New Jersey. The Giudices are due back in court on August 14.

Bravo, the network that broadcasts all installments of the Real Housewives franchise is a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, which in turn is owned by Comcast (CMCSA).
