An LG smartphone promotion in Seoul, South Korea, turned into chaos when 20 people were injured as a mob rushed to the event trying to get their hands on a G2 smartphone.

BBC reports[1] that there were 100 vouchers for LG’s new G2s inside helium balloons, and several people showed up with BB guns and knives with the purpose of popping the balloons and grabbing vouchers. Twenty people sustained injuries resulting from the frenzy that took place for these vouchers.

The company took full responsibility for the injuries and apologized for the fiasco that resulted in seven hospitalizations. LG also has confirmed that none of the injuries were serious and it will cover all medical bills related to these injuries.

Equipped with a new 13-megapixel camera and a 1080p HD display, LG hopes that its G2 will help the electronics company compete with perennial smartphone frontrunners Apple (AAPL[2]) and Samsung (SSNLF[3]).
