NBA Player Signs $80M Deal With Wizards

Point guard John Wall signed an $80 million contract to stay on with the Washington Wizards for five years, the Washington Post reports.

The deal ensures Wall, who was the Wizards’ first round draft pick in 2010, will grace the team’s roster until at least 2019 when Wall will be 28 years old. Wall is the first 2010 draftee to sign a contract extension.

Despite career averages of 16.9 points and eight assists per game, Wall has yet to play in an All-Star Game or led his team to the playoffs. But analysts such as the Post’s Mike Wise, who called the extension “a vote against hideousity and a vote for postseason prosperity,” see Wall as the Wizards’ best shot to overcome their dismal record of 117-277 over the past five seasons.

After sitting out the first 33 games of 2012-13 season due to a knee injury, Wall led the Wizards to a 29-53 third place finish in their division after the team went 5-28 in his absence.
