According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Procter & Gamble (PG[3]) is issuing a voluntary recall for Eukanuba dry dog foods for puppies and adults, Healthy Naturals and ProActive varieties of Iams dry dog food, and Iams Healthy Naturals and ProActive dry food for cats. The pet foods covered under the recall may be tainted with the bacteria that causes salmonella, CBS News notes.

Both pets and their owners are at risk from the contamination, since people who handle tainted food could also come down with the disease, which causes bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. The very young, very old and people and pets with depressed immune systems due to chronic conditions are especially susceptible to the disease.

Pet owners can find a full list of the recalled pet foods’ lot codes at the FDA’s website[4]. All pet foods covered by the recall have a November 2014 expiration date.

The dry food included in the recall represents just 0.1% of Procter & Gamble’s yearly dry pet food output.

Last year, contaminated dry dog food produced at a Diamond Pet Foods Plant in South Carolina was linked to 14 cases of salmonella poisoning in people across nine states[5]. No dogs were reported infected in that outbreak.

Shares of Procter & Gamble fell modestly in Friday morning trading.
