hollywood sign 630[1]When people think of Michigan, they probably image rust-belt factories churning out automobiles, or the Great Lakes. They probably don’t associate the state with Hollywood blockbusters[2].

Yet the Michigan has been tapped by Time Warner‘s (TWX[3]) Warner Bros. Studios as the primary location for filming the followup to this year’s Superman hit, Man of Steel. Work on the sequel will start next year. The state is offering the filmmakers $35 million worth of incentives to use Detroit as the background for the movie, Deadline Hollywood notes.

The Man of Steel sequel joins a growing list of big-budget films shot in Michigan, including Transformers 4 and Oz the Great and Powerful.

The first Man of Steel movie was shot mostly in Vancouver, and broke box office records when it hit theaters in June[4]. The sequel, which pairs Henry Cavill as Superman with Ben Affleck as Batman, is expected to generate $131 million of movie-related spending in Michigan. The sequel is planned to his theaters in the summer of 2015.
