home kitchen[1]Finding a convenient place to charge one’s smartphone is a pressing concern of modern life. And what’s more convenient than a kitchen countertop[2]?

DuPont (DD[3]) has developed a new corian countertop that features wireless charging technology built into the material. Smartphone owners can place their phones in a Duracell AccessCase cover and lay them on the countertop to recharge them, SpringWise notes.

The corian countertops are designed for both commercial and home installation, offering a granite feel.

Battery maker Duracell, owned by Procter & Gamble (PG[4]), is making a push to drive wireless charging to the mainstream. It has partnered with Starbucks (SBUX[5]) to test wireless charging pads[6] at a limited number of coffee shops in Boston and New York City.

Earlier this week, General Motors (GM[7]) announced that some 2014 car models would feature wireless charging technology[8].

Shares of DuPont rose modestly in Thursday morning trading.
