A New Rice Diet Company is Set to Launch Next Month

John Aycoth, a former Washington, D.C., lobbyist, is set to launch his Rice House Healthcare Program[1] next month.

The program is designed to follow the same principles of the Rice Diet Program, which officially shut its doors on Tuesday. Those who participate in the program will likely eat rice and fruit as well as workout to lose weight. Aychoth, who lost 130 pounds over two years on the Rice Diet Program, is hiring former employees of the Rice Diet Program to start this new business. He is investing over $1 million to buy a building, furnish it with a kitchen and hire Dr. Frank Neelon, the former medical director for the Rice Diet Program. Aychoth plans to make his money back in five years by accepting patients who pay in cash, which he will charge $6,000 for the first month of food, classes and medical oversight, reports USA Today.

The Rice Diet Program was likely shutdown due to competition from other weight-loss programs such as Weight Watchers International (WTW[2]) and Nutrisystem (NTRI[3]) taking some of its customers. Weight-loss drugs such as Arena Pharmaceutical‘s (ARNA[4]) Belviq and Vivus’ (VVUS[5]) could also have had an affect on the program.
