Google Street View Car Has Very Bad Day

The vehicle hit two buses and a truck

google street view carGoogle (GOOG) was doing damage control last week after one of its Google Street View cars was involved in a traffic mishap in Indonesia.

The car, which uses multiple cameras to take 360-degree images along public roads for incorporation into the tech giant’s popular mapping program, collided with a bus in the city of Bogor. Apparently frightened by the bus driver’s reaction, the Google car driver attempted to veer away, only to hit another bus and then a truck, the BBC notes.

Google said it was cooperating with local authorities. It wasn’t known if any injuries resulted from the incident. “We take incidents like this very seriously,” a company executive said.

Earlier this year, Google dismissed reports that one of its Street View vehicles had struck and killed a donkey in Botswana. After reports suggested that the vehicle had hit the donkey, Google released images showing the animal standing up after the vehicle passed by.

Google has been working to develop cars that use technology to steer themselves without the help of a human driver.
