Yahoo (YHOO) launched a new mobile video app that is designed to replicate channel surfing on Monday.
The app, called “Yahoo Screen”, is currently only available on Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone, iPad and iPod devices. There is no word on if or when the app will come to Android devices. The app’s controls are meant to replicate channel surfing. Users can swipe left and right to move between episodes and up and down to move between channels. Content from Saturday Night Live, The Onion, GQ, ABC News, Vogue, and more is available on the app at launch, reports Tech Crunch
The app was designed by Yahoo’s New York City-based mobile team, which the company obtained when it purchased the startup Stamped. The team immediately began work on Yahoo Screen after being obtained by Yahoo.
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has been acquiring new talent for the company by purchasing startups. The company has purchased startups such as Stamped, Summly, Jybe and Astrid.
