Advanced Tickets for ‘Hunger Games’ Sequel Are on Fire

'Catching Fire' is expected to gross north of $160 million


Lionsgate’s (LGF) upcoming sequel to Hunger Games has yet to be released and it is already grossing more at the box office than movies in the theaters.

Variety reports that advanced tickets for Catching Fire went on sale on Tuesday and the movie represented 23% of all tickets sold in its first 24 hours. Fans of the Hunger Games franchise can buy tickets online at websites such as Fandango or

Those who pre-buy the tickets can sign up for a chance to win several sweepstakes including the chance to go to the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles. The movie is slated for a Nov. 22 release and it is projected that Catching Fire will gross over $160 million in its first weekend. Hunger Games is the sixth-highest domestic opening ever, grossing $152 million.
