Major Magazine Catches Flak for Plus-Size Melissa McCarthy Cover

Elle, a fashion magazine, is catching flak for its November cover that features Melissa McCarthy.

McCarthy appears on the latest cover of Elle magazine in a large trench coat that covers most of her body. Critics claim that the cover of Elle that features McCarthy was designed to purposefully cover up the actresses weight. Elle is running six different covers on the November issue of its magazine. The actresses found on the other five covers of the magazine are wearing considerably less than what McCarthy is. Elle responded to these claims by saying that its stylists worked with McCarthy and that she “loved this look,” reports Adweek.

“I definitely think the cover is a step in the right direction since it is almost a full-length cover photo,” Dawn Del Russo, a celebrity stylist, told Yahoo Shine. “The coat is on trend now but for future covers, I would hope fuller-figured women are complemented by tailored clothing.”
