Major Meat Recall for Listeria Risk

Listeriosis is a serious infection that can cause fever, diarrhea and more

Over 22,000 pounds of chicken, ham and beef are being recalled after the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a warning saying that these products may be contaminated.

CNN reports that the USDA said in a statement on Tuesday that about 109,000 cases of refrigerated and ready-to-eat products have been recalled because of possible Listeria contamination. The recall affects retailers and distributors in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming and even Canada.

The USDA and the FDA investigated the facility responsible for producing these items and found possible Listeria contamination in the facility. No illnesses have been reported but Listeria could cause listeriosis, a serious infection that can cause fever, diarrhea, muscle aches and other nasty symptoms.
