The current season of The Simpsons will be the last for one character.
Al Jean, the executive producer of the long-running Fox (FOXA) animated show told reporters on a conference call that his team was developing a script “where a character will pass away.” Jean was coy about the identity of the unlucky character, saying only that the actor who provides his or her voice had received an Emmy for their work, the Los Angeles Times notes.
But since almost the entire cast of actors who voice the series’ characters have won an Emmy, that’s little help.
The Simpsons began as a repeating segment of the Tracey Ullman Show in 1987 and was spun off as an independent series in 1989. It is now in its 25th season. One character in the series, Ned Flanders wife, Maude, was killed off years ago.
In August, LEGO announced plans to create a long-rumored set of figures based the The Simpsons for release in 2014.
Visitors to Comcast‘s (CMCSA) Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla., can now dine at restaurants designed after Simpsons’ favorites, the Krusty Burger and Moe’s Tavern.
