Starbucks (SBUX[1]) is launching a new program that allows customers to send coffee to their friends and family via Twitter.

The tweet-a-coffee program allows U.S. customers to sync their Starbucks account to their Twitter account and send $5 gift cards to anyone on the social media platform. By tweeting to @tweetacoffee and the Twitter handle of their desired recipient, they can send a $5 digital eGift redeemable at participating U.S. stores. Recipients can print out the e-gift, show it directly from their smartphones or load it on their Starbucks mobile app.

The new way of buying coffee for someone else is launching today in beta form and the first 100,000 customers who use tweet-a-coffee between now and Nov. 6 using a Visa card will also receive a $5 Starbucks e-gift.starbucks
