China to Loosen One-Child Restriction

Some parents will be allowed to have two children

china stocks flagChina is planning to loosen its one-child restriction.

The one-child restriction, which was put into place during the late 1970’s, will be changed to allow some couples to have two children. The change makes it so that if one parent is an only child then the couple can have two kids. Some cities will require that both parents come from a family where they were the only child for them to be allowed to have two children. Parents that live in rural areas of China are allowed to have two children so long as the first child born is a girl, reports BBC News.

“This step is really, I think, the middle step toward allowing all couples to have two children, and eventually taking away the state’s hand,” Professor Wang Feng, a teacher at University of California and Fudan University in Shanghai, told The Los Angeles Times.
