LivingSocial, a deal-of-the-day website, suffered a two-day outage that made its website and mobile app unusable.
The outage started at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday and didn’t end until 9 a.m. on Thursday. During that time, sellers and buyers were unable to access LivingSocial and the company stopped sending its marketing e-mails. LivingSocial has apologized for the outage and is currently working with sellers to make up for promotions that were lost during the outage, reports the Washington Post.
The cause of the outage was a database that stopped working. LivingSocial’s engineers had to work to manually rebuild the database. The company hasn’t announced what the database contained, but its has assured users that credit card numbers and other financial information wasn’t affected by the database going down, the Washington Post notes.
This isn’t the first time that LivingSocial has had technical issues. In April, one of the company’s servers was hacked and 50 million users had to reset their passwords as a result.
