Mozilla: No Firefox OS Phones in U.S.

Mozilla will offer a Firefox OS developer phone through eBay

firefox_logoMozilla, announced on Wednesday, that it won’t be bringing Firefox OS phones to the United States.

The news that Firefox OS phones won’t be coming to America was announced by Mozilla Executive Chair Mitchell Baker at the OpenMobile Summit. Baker’s announcement comes after former Mozilla CEO Gary Kovacs announced earlier this year that Mozilla plans to bring Firefox phones to the U.S. in 2014. Baker went on to say that the company will offer developer phones in the United States. The only Firefox phone that can be obtained in the U.S. is the ZTE Open, which is available on eBay (EBAY), reports CNET.

Andreas Gal, the vice president of mobile engineering at Mozilla, told CNET that the company is still exploring its options for operator and manufacturer partnerships in the United States.

Until Mozilla makes operator and manufacturer partnerships in the United States, the ZTE Open, which is currently selling on eBay for $79.99, is the only way that Americans can buy a phone with Firefox OS installed on it.
