Supreme Court Rejects Amazon’s Online Sales Tax Appeal

Amazon (AMZN) and other major online retailers such as Overstock (OSTK) continue to suffer from an allegedly unconstitutional online sales tax law.

The Supreme Court stayed out of the legal battle regarding a law that forces Amazon to collect money from its New York customers, according to Bloomberg. Major online retailers claim that it is in violation of the Constitution to collect taxes in states where they don’t have facilities.

Amazon said that the law “subjects retailers to significant burdens on pain of serious civil and criminal penalties.” However, the company did agree to collect taxes in states where it has distribution centers but it believes that this law should not apply to states where it does not have a physical presence.
