Apple, Google Kicking ‘Flappy’ Clones Out of App Stores

The moves comes after Flappy Bird developer pulls game

Flappy Bird is no longer available for download and it looks like you can’t buy clones of the game either.

Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL) are cracking down on games that resemble the original Flappy Bird. The companies are emailing developers and removing their games from their app stores. This move applies to games that use the ‘Flappy’ name or even if they create a game that has a similar gameplay to the original.

The move comes only days after Dong Nguyen — the original game’s developer — decided to pull the game from app stores. The Vietnamese developer said that he removed Flappy Bird because it had become too addictive. The game was making him about $50,000 a day through advertising.

GOOG stock is up about 0.75% Tuesday. AAPL stock is up 0.8%.
