Delta Airlines Breastfeeding Tweet Lands it in Hot Water

The airline says it welcomes breastfeeding mothers

Delta AirlinesDelta Air Lines (DAL) found itself facing an uproar on social media over breastfeeding on its flights.

A woman preparing for a six-hour flight had reached out to Delta via Twitter (TWTR) to learn the airline’s policy for breastfeeding on flights. She noted that her 10-week-old son would not feed while covered or from a bottle. When a Delta representative tweeted back a suggestion that the woman bring breast milk on board with her, it started an online confrontation that quickly dragged in breastfeeding advocates and regular airline passengers, ABC News notes.

Most commenters took the woman’s side, prompting Delta to tweet: “Delta welcomes breastfeeding mothers and babies on our flights. We sincerely apologize for the misinformation.”

That was not enough for some breastfeeding advocates who demanded that Delta issue a formal apology.

DAL stock rose modestly in Wednesday morning trading.
