Flappy Bird Flap: Why Dong Nguyen Took Down His Smash App

Flappy Bird was ruining Dong's "simple life"

Flappy Bird creator Nguyen Dong removed the game from both Google’s (GOOG) Play Store and Apple’s (AAPL) App Store on Sunday.

flappy-bird-Dong-NguyenDong announced that he would be clipping Flappy Bird’s wings 22 hours before doing so. In a Tweet, he said that he “cannot take this anymore.” According to two of Dong’s friends, the developer took the game down after Nintendo (NTDOY) sent him a warning letter. However, Nintendo said it didn’t plan to take legal action toward him and Dong said the removal wasn’t for legal reasons, reports The Chicago Tribune.

A Tweet from Dong on Saturday states that Flappy Bird “ruins my simple life. So now I hate it.”

Flappy Bird was downloaded over 50 million times on the Google Play Store. Dong has stated that he doesn’t have any plans to sell the game, The Tribune notes.
