The Hennessey Venom GT reached 270.49 mph[1] to claim the title of the fastest car in the world.

The Hennessey Venom GT surpassed the previous fastest car in the world –the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport– on Feb. 14 at the Kennedy Space Center. The car, manufactured by Hennessey Performance Engineering, may have beaten the Bugatti Veyron’s run of 267.86 mph, but it isn’t recognized as the fastest production car by Guinness World Records. This is due to Guinness not being at the event and its classification of a production car as having 30 units. The Venom GT only has 29 units, reports Fox News.

The manufacturers of the new fastest car in the world believe that they could beat their own record[2].

“It was still pulling. If we could run on an eight-mile oval we could go faster than that,” Brian Smith, who drove the Hennessey Venom GT in the record-breaking run, told Sky News.
