According to Reuters, a London trader said that “market chatter” suggested that Nokia would make an offer to acquire Alcatel-Lucent for $4.10 per ALU share. Rumors that Nokia might make a bid for ALU have circulated before.
Nokia recently completed the $7.2 billion sale of its struggling handset business to Microsoft (MSFT), giving it a ready source of cash to finance an acquisition.
Last year, it was reported that Nokia was having internal discussions about making a bid for ALU, though no talks between the two companies had occurred.
ALU stock closed at $3.89 a share on Monday. NOK shares were flat in Tuesday morning trading.
