Microsoft (MSFT) is eliminating thousands of jobs, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The tech giant currently employs 127,104 employees but that number may reduce significantly by the end of the month. Microsoft layoffs could come as early as this week and the number of job cuts could exceed the 2009 layoffs of 5,800.
The company will likely eliminate jobs in marketing departments for businesses such as the global Xbox team and software testers. “Organizations will change,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a memo to the staff.
“Mergers and acquisitions will occur,” he added. “Job responsibilities will evolve. New partnerships will be formed. Tired traditions will be questioned.”
MSFT stock is down close to 0.01% Tuesday afternoon.
