Several victims of the outbreak started showing symptoms after a few days into the month-long cruise. The sick were treated on the ship.

The Crown Princess cruise ship docked in California on Sunday and is going to be cleaned before its next voyage, which will take passengers to the Mexican Riviera. The cleaning will take place at a terminal in San Pedro, reports the Associated Press.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are around 20 million cases of norovirus a year in the U.S. Symptoms of the virus include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea and it usually ends after three days, Reuters notes.
