6 Stocks Trading Ex-Dividend Tomorrow!

Looking at the universe of stocks we cover at Dividend Channel, on May 7, Silicon Motion Technology Corp. (ADR) (NASDAQ:SIMO), Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Standex Int’l Corp. (NYSE:SXI), W W Grainger Inc (NYSE:GWW) and Paychex, Inc. (NASDAQ:PAYX) will all trade ex-dividend for their respective upcoming dividends.

First, Apple will pay its quarterly dividend of 52 cents per share on May 14. On May 21, Silicon Motion Technology will pay its quarterly dividend of 15 cents per share, and Paychex will pay its quarterly dividend of 38 cents per share. Then, Standex will pay its quarterly dividend of 12 cents per share on May 26. Lastly, on June 1, Altera will pay its quarterly dividend of 18 cents per share, and W W Grainger will pay its quarterly dividend of $1.17 per share.

As a percentage of SIMO’s recent stock price of $30.44, this dividend works out to approximately 0.49%. So, look for SIMO stock to trade 0.49% lower — all else being equal — when shares open for trading on May 7. Similarly, investors should look for ALTR to open 0.4% lower in price, AAPL 0.41% lower, SXI 0.15% lower, GWW 0.47% lower and PAYX 0.77% lower, all else being equal.

In general, dividends are not always predictable in following the ups and downs of company profits over time. Therefore, a good first due diligence step in forming an expectation of annual yield going forward is looking at the history for a sense of stability over time.

Dividend history can help determine whether the most recent dividends from these companies are likely to continue. If they do continue, the current estimated yields on annualized basis would be 0.61% for Standex, 1.88% for W W Grainger, 3.08% for Paychex, 1.97% for Silicon Motion Technology, 1.61% for Altera and 1.63% for Apple.
