More broadly, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.1%, the Nasdaq climbed 1.8% and the S&P 500 pushed 1.1% higher.

- Gerdau S.A. (GGB): GGB stock is up 6.1% today.
- Stepan Company (SCL): SCL stock is up 3.7% today.
- Carpenter Technology Corp (CRS): CRS stock is up 3.2%, marking the third consecutive day the stock has increased.
- Southern Peru Copper Corp (SCCO): SCCO stock is up 2.9% today.
- Hudbay Minerals Inc (HBM): HBM stock is up 2.7% today.
- Ternium S.A. (TX): TX stock is up 2.5% today.
- Chemtura Corp (CHMT): CHMT stock is up 2.3% today.
- Vedanta Limited (VEDL): VEDL stock is up 2.3% today.
- Worthington Industries (WOR): WOR stock is up 2.3% today.
- Allegheny Technologies Inc (ATI): ATI stock is up 2.2% today.
Some of the biggest losers among basic materials stocks include:
- Simpson Manufacturing Company (SSD): SSD stock is down 0.4% today.
- Grupo Simec S.A. De C.V. (SIM): SIM stock is down 0.3% today.
