A new study claims that people with blue eyes have a greater risk alcoholism.
The new study was published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics: Neuropsychiatric Genetics and is authored by Arvis Sulovari and Dawei Li. The two studied alcoholism in white people with varying eyes colors and found that it got worse the lighter their eye color was, reports Medical Daily.
The study included 1,263 people and it could possibly be used to help clinics when diagnosing people with alcoholism. It found that many of the same genetic components that are related to alcohol use are also present in people with blue eyes, Medical Daily notes.
Li said that the study doesn’t pin down the exact genetic cause of alcohol abuse to blue eyes. He did say that the problems are complex and that many different genes and environmental situations could lead to the issue.
