A Zika virus vaccine could be ready for use by the end of 2016.
Work on the Zika virus vaccine could have it being ready for clinical trials as early as August. This could result in emergency use by September. However, it will still likely be three to five years before it’s commonly available, reports Business Insider.
There are currently two teams in the United States that are working on a Zika virus vaccine. Inovio (INO) has one of these teams and its CEO said that the vaccine being ready by the end of the year was possible, but that it would be an aggressive estimate, Business Insider notes.
A case of the Zika virus in the United States was discovered in a man that had traveled to Latin America. Carnival (CCL) and Royal Caribbean(RCL) are both working to keep travelers out of areas affected by the virus and United Airlines (UAL) is refunding customers that traveled to areas where the virus is present.
