Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc (LL) shares were down on Monday following a cancer risk report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC’s cancer risk report was revised to fix a mistake from the one published on Feb. 10, 2016. This new report claims that laminate floors can cause cancer due to low levels of formaldehyde in them.
According to this report, laminate floors, like the ones sold by Lumber Liquidators, can increase asthma and COPD symptoms. They can also cause irritation to the eyes nose, and throat. This is possible with only low levels of formaldehyde in the floors.
The CDC claims that the estimated risk of cancer from laminate floors is six to 30 cases for every 100,000 people. It notes that the calculated risk is likely lower than this.
Lumber Liquidators has been in the spotlight for formaldehyde in its laminate floors ever since a 60 Minutes report that was released in March of last year.
LL shares were down 17% as of Monday morning.
