AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc (AMC) has announced that it won’t allow texting in AMC Theaters.
AMC Theaters released a statement via its profile on Twitter Inc (TWTR) concerning texting in theaters while movies are playing. The company said it had considered small tests in select areas, but that it threw the idea out following negative feedback across social media.
“With your advice in hand, there will be NO TEXTING ALLOWED in any of the auditoriums at AMC Theaters,” the company said in a statement. “Not today, not tomorrow and not in the foreseeable future.”
AMC said it will instead focus its efforts on upgrading its theaters. It plans to spend over $1 billion in the next few years to add more comfortable seats, different food and beverage offerings, an updated website and smartphone app, and a better AMC Stubs program.
