Nissan Motor Co Ltd (ADR) (NSANY) has said that its next Nissan Leaf will have a range of 200 miles.
This news was confirmed by Kazuo Yajima, the car maker’s global director of EV and HEV engineering. The battery in the next Nissan Leaf will be 60 kWh and was shown off at EVS29.
Yajima also told AutoblogGreen that he couldn’t say when the new Nissan Leaf would be coming. A 200-mile range would be a significant upgrade for the electric car, which currently only has a range of about 100 miles.
A new Nissan Leaf with a 200-mile range would help the company better compete against Tesla Motors Inc’s (TSLA) upcoming Model 3. The Model 3 is designed to be more affordable than the Model S while still having a range of about 200 miles.
