Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. Stock Stumbles on 'Supergirl' Food Poisoning Claim

The blow to CMG stock comes from Jeremy Jordan, who plays Winn Schott on Supergirl. The actor posted an Instagram story over the weekend claiming that he was in the hospital due to his recent trip to Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc.

According to Jordan, the food at Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. “did not agree with me and I almost died.” He claims that his meal at the fast food chain left him with fluid in his arm. CMG is denying claims that its food is responsible for Jordan’s recent illness.

Here’s official statement on the matter, as collected from Business Insider.

We were sorry to hear Jeremy was sick and were able to get in touch with him directly regarding where and when he ate. There have been no other reported claims of illness at the restaurant where he dined. We take all claims seriously, but we can’t confirm any link to Chipotle given the details he shared with us.”

Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. has been facing food safety woes since a particularly bad outbreak of E. coli back in 2015. The company has been trying to win customers back since, but has been struggling to do so. Recently, it has taken to investing in other fast casual restaurant businesses.

CMG stock dropped as much as 5% on Monday morning following the claims. However, the stock has mostly recovered as of noon Monday, but is still down 26% year-to-date.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
