Bull’s Eye: Genesee & Wyoming (GWR)

GWR is primed to continue its uptrend

At, we strive to “own the best and ignore the rest” in our equity portfolios. Toward this end, each day we search our database for a “top stock” (a top rated company in terms of earnings strength as well as company and industry performance) that presents a strong technical “set up” and a good entry point.

In short, when our equity team is looking to add a stock to one of our portfolios, the “bull’s eye” stock shown below is generally their first choice.

Company Symbol Industry Stock Rating YTD% Gain S.T. Stop Loss
Genesee & Wyoming GWR Railroads 9.3 +11.31% $87.83

Why We Like The Stock:

Genesee & Wyoming (GWR) is our most compelling buy today due to the fact that it is a top rated stock (in terms of earnings strength and company/industry performance) with a positive technical set-up. Railroads have had a pretty good year so far, as evidenced in stocks like Union Pacific (UNP), Norfolk Southern (NSC), and Kansas City Southern (KSU). GWR didn’t have a pretty month in April, but it seems to have righted the ship and is continuing its long-term trend higher. The stock has support right below the 50-day moving average, and has based at current prices right above it. We like GWR for a run back to March highs near $95. We would be buyers as long as it stays above the 50-day moving average at $87.83.

We Would Be Buyers:

At the current price (~$89.30 or lower).
