Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is looking to spend a hefty sum to fight[1] the National Rifle Association (NRA).

He is looking to spend $50 million and build a grassroots network in an attempt to pass stricter gun control laws. Mayor Bloomberg wants to create an expanded and more thorough background check system for gun buyers on a state and national level.

He will absorb the funds of the group which will be called Everytown for Gun Safety. The group is an umbrella group of Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Mayor Bloomberg’s goal is to have one million supporters by the end of the year.
