Inauguration Watch: Who Will Sing for Obama?

[1]With just 11 days remaining until President Barack Obama is inaugurated for his second term, the list of performers for the event[2] is coming into focus.

Beyonce will be the star of the show, singing the national anthem at the inauguration. She performed at Obama’s prior inauguration and at the inaugural ball, singing Etta James’ “At Last.”

Kelly Clarkson[3] will sing “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”, following in Aretha Franklin’s footsteps from 2009. James Taylor will be singing “America the Beautiful.” Interestingly enough, Beyonce sang “America the Beautiful” at the 2009 inauguration, which Taylor also performed at.

The invocation for the event is set to be given by former NAACP chair Myrlie Evers-Williams, and the benediction will be given by Atlanta pastor Rev. Louie Giglio. The inaugural poet will be Richard Blanco, who is both the first gay and Latino poet to have that honor, and the youngest poet at 44.
