On Sunday, the wife of the U.S. Secretary of State was rushed to a Boston hospital.
Teresa Heinz Kerry, who is 74 years old, was first treated at the Nantucket Cottage Hospital before being transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she remains in critical condition, the Associated Press notes.
Details regarding her condition were not disclosed by the family. The heir to the Heinz ketchup fortune was vacationing with her husband, former Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, in Nantucket. On Sunday evening an ambulance was called to the home where they were staying. Heinz Kerry received breast cancer treatments in 2009.
Prior to marrying Kerry in 1995, Heinz Kerry was married to another U.S. senator, John Heinz, who died in a 1991 helicopter crash.
Her husband was appointed as Secretary of State by President Barack Obama earlier this year, replacing Hillary Rodham Clinton. Kerry reportedly was with his wife while she was transported to both hospitals.
