NYPost Claims Weiner Paid Actors to Play Supporters

anthony weiner[1]Just when you though Anthony Weiner’s bid to become New York City’s next mayor couldn’t get any stranger, one local newspaper says he is paying … for people to attend campaign events[2].

The embattled former congressman hired actors to cheer for him at New York’s Dominican Day Parade, earlier this month, the New York Post alleges. The paper says the actors were hired by Crowds on Demand, whose name is self-explanatory, and were paid $15 an hour to pretend they supported Weiner.

According to sources, Weiner’s campaign retained the California-based company to bump up the apparent number of his supporters at events in the wake of new allegations that he has continued improper text-based relationships with other women. He reportedly asked the company to have its employees confront hecklers, but it declined.

A representative from the Weiner campaign told the Post that it had never used or even heard of the company. However, his campaign posed campaign interns as pro-Weiner voters in a recent commercial.

Two years ago, Weiner was forced to resign his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after it emerged that he had sent lewd texts and photos of himself to various women[3], none of whom were his wife.

Though he had been rising in polling earlier this year, the latest round of allegations[4] sent his campaign for the Democrat mayoral nomination crashing back to Earth.
