Ross Perot Is Back and Endorsing … No One

Former third party candidate unimpressed with Democratic, Republican options

Former third party candidate Ross Perot declined to endorse either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama in a recent interview given to promote his new autobiography.

The interview, which will run tonight on C-SPAN, was conducted by USA Today‘s Richard Wolf. Despite the fact that his family has given money almost exclusively to Republican candidates recently, Perot was not impressed with either candidates’ national debt strategies.

“We’re on the edge of the cliff, and we have got to start fixing it now. Otherwise, we’re leaving a disaster to our children’s and our grandchildren’s future.”

That disaster, Perot said, could take the form of the United States being taken over by those countries, individuals, and corporations who hold a share of the United States’ debt.

Perot also had interesting things to say about the Tea Party movement, noting “It’s had an interesting impact. … It’s not the solution but I think it was a healthy thing to happen. … It wakes up everybody running for office.”
