U.S. Army Debuts New Unisex Combat Uniform

Women find new uniform more comfortable

Following last month’s announcement that all military jobs will be available to women by 2016, the U.S. Army released a new combat uniform that takes female body shapes into account.

CBS reported yesterday that these unisex combat uniforms are now available at Fort Gordon, and they will exist in 16 different sizes two or three weeks from now.ArmyWomen

Designed for men and women of a more slender build, these uniforms are tighter around the waist area, wider in the hips, and narrower around the shoulders.

These uniforms have been a success so far with 86% of female soldiers finding the coats more comfortable and 71% saying the trousers fit better. Additionally, 94% of them said that the new uniforms make them look more professional.

The release of this uniform is just one of many initiatives that the Army will take within the next three years to ensure that women have the same rights and opportunities as men in the military.
